Strefen Honey and Lemon Lozenges
Strefen Lozenges are a form of treatment that is intended to treat a sore throat and reduce pains in the throat. The active ingredient of these lozenges is flurbiprofn, a drug that belongs to a group called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs work by changing the body’s response to pain, swelling and body temperature.
What causes a sore throat?
A sore throat is generally only a short-term condition and only last for a week. There are a number of causes of a sore throat, which include:
– A cold or the flu
– Laryngitis (a condition where the voice box becomes inflamed)
– Tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils)
– Glandular fever
– Smoking
– Heartburn/acid reflux
– Allergies
In most cases, one of these conditions will be the cause of a sore throat but if a sore throat persists for a longer period of time, then it could be a sign of a more serious condition.
Suitable for:
These Strefen lozenges are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. They should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the lozenges. These lozenges should also not be used by anyone who any of the following applies:
– Has had two or more episodes of a stomach ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
– Has asthma or breathing difficulties after using any NSAID or aspirin
– Taking more than 75mg of aspirin a day, or any other NSAID
– Has had severe heart, kidney, or liver failure
If you are using medication for any other condition, then speak to a doctor pharmacist before using these lozenges.
Direction for use:
Take a single lozenge and suck is slowly. The effects of the lozenge can take up to 30 minutes to work. Use a lozenge every 3-6 hours if needed but do not use more than 5 lozenges in a 24-hour period. Do not use for longer than 3 days unless told to do so by a doctor. If symptoms persist or get worse, speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Are there any side effects?
Like with many types of medicine, there is a chance of side effects. These include:
– Allergic reactions including skin rash, itching, and runny nose
– Dizziness
– A headache
– Mouth ulcers or mouth pain
– Nausea
– Diarrhoea
– Indigestion
– Vomiting
– Drowsiness
