Eczmol 1% w/w Cream
Eczmol cream contains skin moisturisers and an antiseptic called chlorhexidine gluconate and is used as a moisturiser to help prevent and treat the dryness and itching which are common features of skin complaints such as eczema and dermatitis.
Eczmol works by forming a barrier with the skin surface and trapping the moisture in deeper layers of the skin and reducing drying. The chlorhexidine gluconate helps combat germs on the skin that make certain types of eczema worse.
The same instructions apply to adults, the elderly and children:
Apply Eczmol to the affected areas.
Massage well into the skin until absorbed.
Repeat as often as required.
For use as a soap substitute: Eczmol cream may be used as a moisturising cleanser in the bath or shower instead of ordinary soap or shower gel.
Keep the water temperature warm but not too hot as this can result in the removal of natural oils from the skin.
After washing, pat dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing too vigorously because this can aggravate dry skin conditions.
Warnings
If you accidentally swallow the cream, contact your doctor or nearest hospital. If a significant quantity of the cream is accidentally swallowed the following symptoms may occur: a feeling of drunkenness, feeling sick, vomiting, slurred speech, a staggering walk and drowsiness. In the case of massive ingestion stomach upset and liver damage may result.
Like all medicines Eczmol cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Cases of anaphylaxis have been reported. This is a serious allergic reaction which causes difficulty in breathing or dizziness. If you experience these symptoms stop using the medicine immediately and seek urgent medical advice.
There have been some reports of general allergic reactions to chlorhexidine gluconate (the active ingredient of Eczmol 1% w/w Cream). This may cause redness or irritation of the skin away from the site of application. If you get any side effects, stop using this medicine and talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
