PreserVision Original high-potency anti-oxidant supplement is specially formulated to help preserve eye health in individuals susceptible to age-related changes to their vision.
PreserVision Original contains Beta-carotene and Vitamins C&E with Zinc. It is based on the PreserVision tablet formulation which was developed in conjunction with the National Eye Institute (NEI) in the USA, and is designed to help preserve vision.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble dietary antioxidant and free-radical scavenger. It is found naturally in foods such as citrus and soft fruits, leafy green vegetables and potatoes.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble dietary antioxidant which helps maintain cell membrane integrity and is abundant in the retina. It is found in vegetables, fat spreads and cereal.
Zinc acts as a co-factor in several enzymatic pathways which limit oxidative damage.
Beta-carotene and Lutein are members of the carotenoid family and are both powerful antioxidants:
- Beta-carotene acts as a precursor to Vitamin A, which supports the neurological response related to the photoreceptors. Main dietary sources of beta-carotene include yellow and green (leafy) vegetables and fruits. Carrots, spinach, broccoli, peppers, pink grapefruit, tomato juice, and peaches are all sources of beta-carotene. BetaCarotene should not be taken by smokers
- Lutein, which protects the eyes from harmful wavelengths of light, is found naturally in the macula at the back of the eye but has to be obtained from dietary intake. Dietary sources include egg yolk and dark, leafy vegetables, such as spinach and broccoli. Because these sources contain small quantities of lutein, even balanced diets often do not contain enough lutein to realise its benefits.
